We are afraid of the wrong things!

When I was born I was afraid of strangers
When I went to pre-school I was afraid of leaving my parents for the first time
When I started school I was afraid of the new challenges that faced me
When I moved schools I was afraid of making new friends
When I started middle school I was afraid of the big building and the new teachers
When I went to high school I was afraid of my school workload
When I was in matric I was afraid of failing
When I graduated I was afraid of going over seas for a year
When I came back from overseas I was afraid to live in South Africa
When I started at CPUT I was afraid I made the wrong choice

BUT… I went to preschool, I faced those challenges at primary school, I made new friends when I moved to a new school, I adapted to my new teachers and the big middle school building, I managed my high school workload, I passed matric, I had an incredible experience overseas, I settled back in when I came home, I went to CPUT and I graduated!

I think at each stage of our lives we are afraid of certain things and looking back at all the things I was afraid of I can laugh!

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?

Well how do you step off the top of a 100 foot pole? I see this question as an analogy to taking risks in life rather than literally stepping off the top of a 100 foot pole.

There comes a time in everyone’s’ lives when they have to take a great leap of faith…just like stepping from a 100 foot pole. You may not know if you will make it safely to the ground, or if you will succeed, however if you don’t try you will never know!

Life is too short for people not to make the most of each day! If one procrastinates about stepping off a 100 foot pole they are never going to have the opportunity of taking risks and making those increcible memories to tell their grandchildren one day! How will they ever know if they reached their full potential?

Sometimes you just have to follow you heart, even if it makes no sense at all. We learn from our mistakes so we don’t repeat them. Life is all about chances, if you don’t take them you will never get off the 100 foot pole, and if you do take chances, face all the obstacles in your way one at a time.

So close your eyes, dream big, follow your heart and take that first step off the 100 foot pole.

We are what we do!

It is said that actions speak louder than words! Is this statement over rated or are we judged by our actions?

I believe we are what we do, stereotypes exist for this exact reason. People are labeled for what they do. If you murder someone, you are a murderer, if you save someone, you are a hero.

If we are not who we are from what we do, then what would we be?

I believe that all our achievements, all those amazing moments in life, all our worst hours, all our highest highs and all our lowest lows is what shapes our personalities, the people we are and the people we become.

Life is too short for people who waste their time on useless efforts as that reflects on who they are. If we waste time are we wasters? And if we make the most of each and every day and live our lives to our full potential will we be great individuals?

So if asked the question do I believe that we are what we do, my answer would be yes! If we weren’t then why would we do anything? Those that make the effort to be bold will reflect well on who they are.
